The DIN registration and allotment process is fully online and requires submission of proof of identity and address documents along with PAN details and a recent photograph. All Indian resident directors as well as foreign nationals intending to become directors in an Indian company must obtain a DIN within 30 days of appointment. The DIN registration facilitates transparency and accountability in corporate governance by enabling tracking and identification of directors across organizations.

Who can apply?

Here are the eligibility criteria to apply for Director Identification Number (DIN):

1. Resident Indian citizens above the age of 18 years can apply for DIN.

2. Non-resident Indians and foreign nationals can also apply if they are on the board of an Indian company or intend to become directors.

3. The maximum number of directorships allowed for an individual is 20 companies. Of which, maximum 10 can be public companies.

4. Person should not have been convicted of any offence in the past five years.

5. Undischarged insolvent cannot apply. Disqualified directors also cannot apply.

6. Individual should have proper registered address proof in India.

7. Different eligibility criteria for independent and small company directors.

8. Existing directors without DIN must apply within 5 months of company incorporation.

To summarize, Indian citizens and foreigners associated with Indian companies having proper documents can apply for DIN subject to eligibility criteria set by MCA. Professional directors can apply for up to 20 directorship numbers.

Government Fee

The government fees for Director Identification Number (DIN) are as follows:

1. DIN Application Fees:

INR 500 for applying for a new DIN (Director Identification Number)

2. DIN Application Fees:

INR 500 for applying for a new DIN (Director Identification Number)

3. DIN Application Fees:

INR 500 for applying for a new DIN (Director Identification Number)

4. Fees for Deactivated DIN:

INR 1000 for filing DIR-3-KYC or other pending documents to get a deactivated DIN activated again.

Additionally, Certifying Authorities may charge facilitation charges over and above these government fees when issuing DSCs.

The fees are inclusive of all applicable taxes under the IT Act 2000.

The class of DSC determines its purpose, key usage and key length which in turn impacts the security level. Higher class DSCs have more rigor in identity verification and thus cost more.

This fee structure is set by CCA and applies uniformly to DSC applications from all Certifying Authorities operating under CCA in India.
