Types of Bank Audits
Banks face three primary audit examinations:
- Statutory/External Audit
These are annual audits of bank financial reports/statements by independent auditors appointed by RBI to certify their accuracy and compliance as per governing acts. Qualified Chartered Accountants undertake these audits.
- Internal Audit
Banks have internal audit functions that keep assessing policies, procedures and internal checks periodically for risk management. These are conducted by bank staff or outsourced professionals.
- Concurrent Audit
These are regular audits of current transactions, daily settlements and accounting. Done concurrently alongside operations, they help early detection and mitigation of errors.
