Cos1 and Cos2 are forms related to the regulation of cosmetics in India by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), which comes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Cos 1 Form:
The Cos 1 form is the application form for obtaining a license to manufacture cosmetics in India. It is mandatory for any company or individual intending to manufacture cosmetics to obtain this license from the respective State Licensing Authority.
The Cos1 form requires the applicant to provide details such as:
- Name and address of the manufacturing premises
- Categories of cosmetics to be manufactured
- Details of the manufacturing process and quality control measures
- List of technical staff employed for manufacturing and testing
- Documentary evidence of having proper premises and equipment for manufacturing cosmetics
Once the application is submitted along with the required fees and documents, the licensing authority conducts an inspection of the manufacturing premises to verify compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules. If found satisfactory, a license is granted to the applicant.
Cos 2 Form:
The Cos2 form is the license granted by the State Licensing Authority for the manufacture of cosmetics. It is issued after the successful evaluation of the Cos 1 application and the inspection of the manufacturing premises.
The Cos2 license specifies the following details:
- Name and address of the licensed manufacturer
- Categories of cosmetics allowed to be manufactured
- Validity period of the license (typically 5 years, renewable)
- Conditions and restrictions, if any, imposed by the licensing authority
The license holder is required to comply with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Rules, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) during the entire validity period of the license. Failure to comply may result in the suspension or cancellation of the license.
