Apostille Services

Apostille is a certification process used to authenticate public documents for international use. However, as the latest update in November 2023, Hong Kong, as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, does not issue apostilles directly. Apostilles are typically issued by the central government of a country, and in the case of China, it’s generally handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the People’s Republic of China.

The usual process involves the following steps:

  1. Notarization in China or Hong Kong: Get the documents notarized by a recognized notary public in the relevant jurisdiction.
  2. Authentication by Chinese Authorities: Have the documents authenticated by the relevant Chinese authorities, such as the local Foreign Affairs Office and potentially the Chinese consulate in Hong Kong.
  3. Legalization by Indian Consulate: Submit the authenticated documents to the Consulate General of India in Hong Kong for further legalization.

It’s crucial to check the current requirements with the relevant authorities and consulates, as these processes can be subject to change. Additionally, consider consulting with a legal professional or a service specializing in document authentication and legalization to ensure accurate and up-to-date information based on the latest regulations.

Notarization of Chinese documents

Notarize your document at an authorized Notary Public (公证处) or relevant authority [e.g., the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), for commercial documents].

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) provides notarization services for various types of documents related to international trade and business. The notarization services offered by CCPIT are generally geared towards commercial and legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, and other business-related papers.

The process involves the verification and certification of the authenticity of these documents by CCPIT officials. This notarization is intended to ensure that the documents hold legal validity both within China and internationally. It serves as a means to enhance the credibility and legal standing of such documents, facilitating smoother international transactions. However, it’s important to note that CCPIT’s notarization services typically do not extend to personal documents such as birth certificates or educational certificates. These types of documents may require notarization or authentication through other channels or government agencies that specialize in handling personal records.
