Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has notified “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012”, mandating Indian Safety Standards for the notified goods under the registration scheme notified by BIS issued under the ambit of BIS Act, 1986 under Gazette Notification no. S.O. 2357(E) dated 7th September 2012.

As per the Compulsory Registration Order 2012 issued by MeitY Manufacturers have to apply for a Compulsory Registration Scheme with BIS after getting their products tested from BIS Recognized labs.

Note: No person shall manufacture or store for sale, import, sell or distribute goods which do not conform to the Indian standard specified in the order as laid down by Bureau of Indian Standards.

BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS

Bureau of Indian Standards grants licence to the manufacturers to use or apply Standard Mark with unique R-number, through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards. The grant of licence and its operation under Compulsory Registration Scheme are carried out as per the conformity assessment scheme under Scheme – II of Schedule – II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018′.

APPLICATION FOR REQUEST

Application for request of Registration Certificate for import of Electronics & IT Goods in India is submitted under Form I. Gazette Notification S.O.2357 (E) issued by Government of India has made registration of imported Electronics & IT with BIS mandatory.

  1. Share the technical specification of your product with NKG.
  2. If your product comes under the scope of BIS (Bureau of Indian standards), then the necessary list of documents will be shared with you.
  3. Apply online for login credentials from BIS
  4. Taking samples from the manufacturer for testing
  5. NKG will test your product with a BIS recognized and NABL approval lab.
  6. After testing, a test report will be submitted at BIS online.
  7. After receiving your signed documents and original test report, the NKG team leader will scrutinize the application thoroughly.
  8. If all documents are in order w.r.t application and test report then NKG will apply online for fresh registration at BIS.
  9. After receiving the application, the BIS department will assign an officer.
  10. The officer securitizes all submitted documents, if all documents and test report are ok then process further, otherwise they will raise the query for clarification.
  11. If everything is correct in the application file, then the Dealing officer will recommend the file for grant.
  12. Granting officer will grant the file and the registration no.(R-xxxxxxxx) is generated and get certificate
